No VAT on Postage Stamps Dec03 |
The
European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee has voted to
reject European Commission proposals to add VAT to all supplies of postal
services, including stamps. Bashir
Khanbhai, Conservative Member of the European Parliament for Eastern
Region, said: "Putting
VAT on stamps would have been an unwanted extra cost at Christmas.
This is an important victory.
If we can repeat today's result when the full session of the
European Parliament votes on this, we will have saved people from having
to pay more for their stamps. "Christmas
is expensive enough without having to pay VAT on Christmas card postage.
With sixty tax rises from Gordon Brown, we don't need more from the
European Commission."
